To me, tape playback is as fun as portable digital is soulless. Not a very fair or even rational argument, but then fun, like love, isn't always rational, is it?!
Are you collecting blanks or pre-recorded material?

Right now, I decided to pick up some tape music on ebay primarily classical at this point. Any recommendations and thoughts?

I found some jems a few weeks ago- and finally got around to listening to them-
Saw a pile of cassette tapes on the free table at the local 'Pay-n-Take' - and seeing that they were all type III or IV I grabed them - (also the tabs for recording had not been broken)
Needed one for recording an FM broadcast that I wanted to save and finally listened to the other side -
Live John Cale from the Late '90s - Just John and a Piano - Amazing!
then others were a mix but well recorded!
Keep your eyes peeled for this type of Jems...
Happy listening

I love Telarc on lp. Currently filling gaps on a newly functional reel-to-reel
