Christmas Music (OK - holiday music)!
Mark's previous post got me thinking here... and can't remember many if any prerecords (two tracks at least) with a Christmas theme. Probably a few out there on 4-track.
Of course there is my favorite - Nutcracker - the Westminster with Rodzinsky/PSOL is tops (wish I had the whole thing - two reels - but the single reel "selections" is JUST fine).
Damn - where'd I put the eggnog - and the chestnuts!

Follow Ups:
Ok, it is a 4-track, Andy Williams Christmas. How could one forget those Christmas specials on TV. May not be everone's cup of tea, but the guy could sing.
On two track:
Christmas from Hawaii with The Surfers on HiFi R-410
Bach - Christmas Oratorio on Concert Hall Society CHT BN-21-2
A Christmas Festival - Leroy Anderson on Decca ST7-8925
Liane Sings Christmas Songs on Vanguard VST-3016
Christmas with Grandma Moses on RCA CPS-174
This is quite a diversity of Christmas music. Columbia, Capital, Livingston, and Omegatape all released at least one Christmas title on 2-track.
There has never been a shortage of Christmas recordings. The reason? It sells, and music is a big part of Christmas.
Westminster SWB 8008 Christmas at Radio City, featuring Dick Leibert at the Wurlitzer. Sonic B, rather dull performance, but interesting to hear how Westminster dealt with a 6000-seat room.
Thanks Guys!
Merry Christmas
I have the Chipmunks Christmas Album on two track as well as the Mills
Brothers Christmas, The Voice of Music Christmas library, Johnny mathis Christmas and quite a few others on Bel Canto
Concertape, Columbia and Dot. Those two tracks are hard to find now.
If you play the Chipmunks at half-speed, do you hear Dave Seville (Ross Bagdasarian) singing harmony with himself -- using goofy voices to add timbral color?
I've always meant to do this...
all the best,
mrh
Yes you do.
Quarter track but still Christmas!

Happy holidays Charles!I have an interesting Christmas specific tape that was (supposedly)never released for sale and the performance is only captured on this tape.
If it has a title, it would be "A Christmas Greeting in Stereophonic Sound".
From what I've been able to gather, it was sent out by Ampex dealers in 1956 to professional customers.
It's a 5" 1/2 track of the John Halloran Choir doing 8 common carols which are "unavailable in any other form".To quote the back;
This is the first Christmas greeting ever sent in stereophonic sound. We do sincerely hope it brings new pleasure to your Christmas of the year nineteen hundred and fifty-six and to holiday seasons of years to come.
The front cover is a B&W photo of an angle ornament hanging from a string.
I'd heard of this tape from the Ampex list guys and this one is the only one I've ever seen.BTW,.. sounds great!

The Sound of Christmas, John Halloran Choir
I have SWB 7001 (the 16-minute version) and it's one of my all-time favorites. Stunning performance, gorgeous sound (A+).Another favorite I should mention is the Boston 2-track Messiah excerpts performed by the Zimbler Sinfonietta with the Handel and Haydn Society of Boston. Recorded in 1955, this may be the very first stereo recording of Messiah ever, and it's a gem. A solid sonic A, on two 32-minute reels: BO-7 and BO-10.
Finally, highly recommended is the complete Westminster 4-track stereo recording of Bach's B Minor Mass conducted by Scherchen with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and Chorus. The early Ampex duplication (on two reels) is excellent in every regard.
