my garage might elicit a grin... or maybe just a smirk...
Not as spiffy clean as your Ampex, though...
A local radio station was getting rid of them; literally having trouble giving them away (via CL); how could I refuse? ;-)
all the best,

Do you use those reel holders on your 7-inch reels. I hate those things. There's an Akai substitute that is much easier to use but will not stand up (IME) to repeated use without coming apart. I use the original Otari holders on 10 1/2 inch reels, pretty much out of necessity, but use push-on rubber thingies on the smaller reels. Otari finally got wise on the final version of the MX5050 and started employing reel holders that made sense.
If you're so inclined, You can really upgrade those Otari decks by installing Bottlehead tape path modification kits (replacing fixed tape guides with roller bearings) and -- best of all -- go direct from the repro tape heads to an external preamp like the the better ones from Bottlehead or the deHavilland 222. But even in stock form they're pretty incredible decks, sonically and otherwise.
I wish that Ampex *was* mine, and your pic made me smile as well, 'cause here's what I've got.

I've always wanted an Otari (well, OK, not since birth... but for some while now)... I am optimistic that one of my foundling trio will be... umm... ambulatory (rotatory?) :-) I hope to find good homes for the other two anon.
That said, I haven't even fired any of them up yet -- and they've been in the garage for over a month.
Too many other things going on in the brief, beautiful summer in northern New England!

...rolling stand & bracket like that.
Where did your source yours?

Ps: here's one of my 2 Mx5050 B-II 2 decks.
I got it from Gustavoa, he does really great work. It is a wonderful machine and has replaced my Technics RT-1506 and RT-1700 as my go to machine.

Got the deck and stand from different people on ebay. Got the deck for $180 and the stand for $70. Shipping on each was... substantial.
The deck turned out to be pretty good - needed relapping, new pinch roller, and painstaking cleaning to get cigarette smoke out - all surfaces inside and out, every component on every PCB - lots of Qtips and alcohol over many evenings.

Ah, yes. I didn't recognize the machine, and was trying to read the nameplate.
Coulda been Scully - they're spelled very similarly. lol
I might take the rack mount one. How much? Speeds? Track config? Head wear?
:)
