Not to offend anyone, but cassette and reel-to-reel are two different universes. One is four tracks squeezed onto a tape that's 1/8 inch wide and running at 1-7/8 ips with no means of editing.
The other is real tape recording in all its glory.
Just sayin'.

I'm pleased to say that I never owned an 8-track cassette. That's largely because, being aware of the importance of track width and tape speed, it never made any sense to me as a high fidelity format. It was the 1970 version of mp3. (At least you can edit an mp3!)

And VCR. And Betamax. Shame on us. I mean, they may not be analog, but they sure did use tape.
And Hi8.

Now that you remind me of it, I've got a nice Sony 555 HiFi VHS VCR which won't read tapes anymore - just snow (yes, it only reads snow - lol).
I sure would like to have it repaired if I could find a place which still does that competently! (I'm in Dallas.)

We get so few posts here now that cutting the number in two is unlikely to achieve anything positive.
I understand what you're saying.
Still, cassette and reel-to-reel are two different worlds.
:)
More like two tiny asteroids circling a void of indifference.
Tape Trail has been here for several years, right? Yet when a tape-related post appeared on another forum and I suggested to the moderators that it be moved to Tape Trail, I got this response:
"There's a Tape Trail?"
Sure it was tongue in cheek (at least I hope so) and the thread WAS moved here, after which it languished, but the meaning was clear enough :-)
Still, there's reel-to-reel tape recording, and there's cassette.
Two different things.
:)
Hardly anyone here (on AA) actually gives a damn about either. Look how few posts there are on Tape Trail, over any given period of time.
I suppose we could get belligerent about it. "Visit Tape Trail or I'll kill this puppy."
Don't kill the puppy. It's my main source of information about R2R. I've only posted a few times, but lurk a lot and use the search function to solve problems.
Maybe I should post more often. It's just that I've generally not much to say.
