Might it be possible to include the time of day on each Asylum page when it loads into member computers? This would make it easier to know if the page needs to be refreshed or not.I'm not saying this is a big problem since the pages load pretty fast. But if it's not a lot of trouble to do this...

I use the "Automatic" cache setting in IE and it works well. Whenever I open a new IE window or click on a forum name I get a refresh, but I don't when I use the back button during normal reading of a forum so I get just about the perfect behavior without having to use the refresh button.
Since our pages are statically updated and rather than being dynamically created, that isn't an easy thing to do. I'm also unsure of how it helps. If you set your browser to check for a new page each time, you should never get an old page. In Internet Explorer, click on Internet Options from the Tools menu. Then on the General tab, you'll see Temporary Internet Files. Click on the Settings button. Finally, under Check for newer versions of stored pages, click on Every visit to the page. The default is only when you start Explorer which would explain your problem with refreshing.
