Hi, I made these from a sheet of plywood on my front porch. The 6.5 inch coax from Parts Express cost me 25.00 and was a Vifa from Denmark. I 'm half Danish so I painted the flag with some model paint. The design is a Weems Pipe with some added mods inspired by Frank Van AlStine, modeling clay. I power them with a Heathkit AA -32 and use a Titanic sub woofer with a BASH amp.......I keep changing stuff around like you guys must but this is my flag ship to date.......Mark Korda
Follow Ups:
They offered several different tweeter coax versions.
The Vifa Coax series ( except for the M&K 4") are very rare, with a interesting demand by folks looking to use a low powered tube amp building units much like yours. The somewhat higher efficiency and suitable for sealed or TL loading.
I have old catalogs that referenced a foam surround A16 version with even higher efficiency but have never actually seen one
Was the clay used for terminal tuning or for enclosure/line resonance control?
Edp, there is a piece of plywood inside the enclosure in sort of a bass reflex affair but it is actually a tapered pipe. There is a little section inside at the front of the pipe where a small brace goes across as in Weems dimensions. Instead of leaving in hollow I packed it with Plastistine Clay. My goal was to lower the point of resonation. These portrait a perfect stand up bass as I grew up with one sitting in the living room.My father played it in a community symphony. I know the feel of resonation when I plucked that bass. Take care Edp...Mark Korda
