After hooking up the 19's to my Mac I can't believe how great they sound! I just received all of the Sonicap Gen I caps and the mills resistors the other day to replace the stock ones. Getting ready to change these out in one speaker and do a comparison test with the other speaker. I noticed on some forums it would be advised to change the wire from the crossover to the drivers with thicker gauge wire. Any thoughts on that? Anything else I should do while I have the crossovers out? I would appreciate any ideas. I'm not a tech by any means but I can follow a few simple directions and solder.

Hello all... over the last few days I replaced all the resistors and caps in the crossovers in the model 19's. After I did one speaker I put on a mono lp and did a comparison test. I have done this to other speakers in the past so I was not surprised that the bass was punchier and the highs were much clearer and detailed. I thought the bass in the original one without new caps was very muddy and loose sounding. It was not until I did the other speaker that I realized what a difference this has all made. These updated speakers running through my MC 30's and Fisher pre's is just ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I am astounded and just blown away with how great they sound. I believe I have "the" set of speakers to listen to for the rest of my life. I am including some pics of the restoration. I did not replace the interior speaker wires as suggested or do the grounds. I guess one day I will open them back up to do these things but for right now I am in heaven.
I've just replaced the Caps in my modified Valencia crossovers with the "latest" Cap from Wima ! It's called a "GTO" cap. These are high quality fast Pulse caps.
Wima and Kemet makes a version of these cap. They usually sell for around #50. ea. I bought a bunch of the branded as Acrotronic. These are
4.5uF 1200vDC 65A. caps.
What they have done for my Valencia's and my Altec/JBL 2-way MLTL speakers has been a revelation ...

Please. PLEASE do this!
Very few people do this.
When you A/B your modded/unmodded boxes, do let us know what your findings are!
When guys do upgrades to both speakers at once they are always relying on memory (except in the rare instance they do before/after measurements). Memory is fallible, and subject to all kinds of expectation bias.
Looking forward to your findings! :)

When I have time to do the crossover I will get back and give you my opinions. Thanks
Ditto on Presto.
And be sure to set your stereo/mono switch to mono, so you're getting the same signal through both speakers.
:)
I'm not sure I have that capability with the Fisher 90c preamps I have.
+1 for the Duelund tin plated copper. They are reasonably priced and respect the tone of the music.
Replacing all the wiring to the speakers while you have them open is a good idea. Consider using the Duelund tin plated copper wire with cotton jacket.
It is available in 20, 16 and 12 gauge. I would use the 16ga. Bigger is not always better!

Freak out...Far out...In out....
mine were not conducting to the board. And your caps lock key appears to be stuck.
I LOVE CAPS!!
Keep in mind, when you compare, that new capacitors have to break in. They might sound harsh or just plain wrong in the beginning.
I typically change the wire when I go in deep-Meniscus Audio is my preferred wire source for nice silver plated hook up wire.
