I have a 20 yr old pair of Paradigm Studio 60s. They are fine, but I have often wondered how a more contemporary design would compare. I'm intrigued by the glowing reviews for Andrew Jone's ELAC line. And could buy them for not much money after selling the Paradigms. Or the well reviewed SVS floor standing speaker. Neither are available locally to audition. I guess my basic question is could I expect a real upgrade if I buy something around $1,000/pair, or are my current speakers comparable in quality? I would hope for stronger bass, more presence and definition
Thanks in advance for any opinions

I can't say how much of an improvement you might get, that's ubjective. I do feel you can find something with more bass and different from what you have now. You could also add a SVS sub to the 60's.
I've heard A couple Elac models and they are a very good value. I've not heard the SVS but they offer a generous audition period. The Golden Ear are also getting raves as over achievers at their price points. I'm not sure at what price Tekton begins, they sell direct as well and the products get good comments.
If you have a Revel dealer look at the new Concerto line. If you like the Paradigm highs, which I feel are prominent, Monitor Audio is similar but with strong bass to match.
Normally since I'm a loudspeaker engineer I go off on a speech about how much design technology technology has improved. And the ELAC series (I'd try to get to the Uni-Fi towers) sound really really good in my very picky opinion. However, I've long admired Paradigm, and they are likely more efficient than the ELACs, so I'm not sure it would be an upgrade. You would really have to audition and see. I'm also very fond of the very clear sound of Dynaudio, and Vandersteen.
What is the rest of your system? Do you have a subwoofer? If not I might suggest you think about that. Or if you listen to other speakers and still like yours, consider a more powerful and better amp.
I'd also suggest posting at avsforum at at the stevehoffman.tv forums. $1000 is a goodly amount of money; I think you will get many replies (maybe too many ha ha).
