In Reply to: RE: Looking for a sub to pair with my set up... posted by V01 on April 21, 2017 at 10:16:43
I'm not sure the Bag End Infrasubs would fit your budget or system context however..In the context of my system they have performed admirably to the point of musical perfection in the lower registers. Really quite amazing how much low frequency detail just exude from this pair of 18 inch woofers. The key word here being pair as the 400 watt amplifiers internally share the low frequency duties. With that being said it has allowed me to
enjoy long and nonfatiguing listening sessions with realistic, flat response down to 8htz, well below the range of hearing. Yes there's real low frequency information down low which the Bag Ends produce effortlessly that allows the music a full detailed foundation that just breaths excitement as well as pure emotional involvement throughout the musical spectre in most instances sound stage gains are noticeable and midrange gains are very clear and apparent.
Probably one of the best aspects IMO to system building yet one that's either overlooked by purists or not taken seriously by many.
One aspect in my system synergy is the fact my Mirage OM 6s are sealed full range speaker rated to 18htz and the Bag End Infrasubs are sealed acoustic suspension as well, with response that's rated from roughly 60 htz to as low as 8htz and they really work extremely well integrating as a seamless whole. Very important IMO.
Wonderful subs that have tremendous weight and power and when combined with my Mirage BPS 400 sub woofer in home theatre mode they feel as if they've shifted my house a few inches on explosions. Tremendous jump factor.
Don't mean to be overjoyed in regards to they're reference level sound quality, but the plain hard truth is THEY'RE JUST THAT.Best of luck in your search as you came to the best group of audiolunitics on the web. And I mean that in all due respect. Great advice here!

I just finished these in stereo. Actually I am quite surprised at how good they sound.
One caveat. The mount the plate amp outside the box and let it vent both top and bottom. Plate amps are being built on the cheap and they are saving money on cooling fins. But it does work quite well for my stereo sub setup.
In stereo configuration sub woofers are still considered a bit of an anomalie yet for superb musical scores as well as movie soundtracks twin or multiple sub woofers are vastly superior in terms of room response and spls .
Much like your lack of heat sinks... My trick is..
In the case of the Bag Ends one sub performs well but can overload or tax out and the limiter restricts it's capabilities. Yet by adding the second sub and sharing or splitting the low frequency load the Bag End subs true potential vastly improves in all areas of dynamics, spls, and low frequency extension etc.
Stereo sub woofers... Hat trick...
Continued success in your endeavors as it appears that your DIY high value subs are performing admirably.

I had one of those for a few years. WHY!!!! the heck I sold it I have NO idea!!! What a wonderful sounding piece of audio.
The KA7300
The KA8100Ya the old Kennys really sing. No its not the 8100, it's the KA7300, sold 1976-79, the 8100 1977-79. I find it odd the interior architecture is so different between these two models designed and sold at the same time.
Ok, now that I've posted them here together I see the toggle switches on the 8100 are identical to my old 7100 purchased new in 78. I always thought it was the line to replace the older, but it appears they were both replaced in 1980?

Lots of OLD gear there lol, except for the subs and disc player all more than 4 decades and still producing beautiful music. The amps, speakers, and TT have seen a few minor modifications, but all for sonic improvements not electronic failure.

I didn't want to say vintage. But seriously looking at that picture takes me way back in time. A good friend still has his 1970 something Sansui receiver, tape deck, and Technics turntable nothing wrong with that.
Beauty is in the ear of the beholder.

It's only one of my systems, but all are a bit shall we say "vintage?" The guest rm setup is more 90's but still has that vintage feel. Would love to get another matching sub there too, but they're kind of rare and still holding their value. When I get the chance to score another I'm all over it.As for running low bass enclosures (subs) in stereo. It seems many get caught up in the terminology and assume there's no content that's localizable, maybe it was the hard sell by Bose? Maybe it was the retailers worried about convincing the consumers they needed two? Well those that know know different and are enjoying the benefits.
It's kind of like the feedback often heard about vertical biamping (on another less knowledgeable forum). I've been biamping and running stereo subs for almost 40 yrs beginning with car audio in my youth. The Infinity speakers in the picture are being biamped with a pair of Belles Model I amps. As for power, way overkill, but what it does for the soundstage can't be denied once heard. Both of my main rigs are biamped, I modified the Heresys crossover to allow this.
