Paul McGowan, owner of PS Audio, has written extensively about finding an original pair of IRS speakers. Because of their age he did go through a fair bit of restoration work. Fortunately for him he is good friends with Arnie Nudell so had direct guidance with the project.
Once restored, Paul feels they are as good as any current speaker.
I don't know how much is given up from those with the smaller Beta version?

The late HP of tas said of IRS Betas from 100hz on up it was the best speaker in the world. He was not happy with Betas Bass
Ha! That's funny.

The IRS Beta was assumed to be a smaller IRS. But I always wondered why no one ever noted that while the IRS was a line source, the Beta was not, so its spatial sonic characteristics were different and I suspect(since I never was able to compare them) that it sounded a bit different also. The color of the larger panels had to be at least a bit different plus the extra crossovers(the IRS was a 3 way, the Beta a 5 way) and where they occurred in the audio band had to be different.
