Giving a functioning pair of Fulton FMI-80's to my friend, and need to purchase a modern receiver, with FM S, HD, digital ready with HDMI. Maybe a AVR. Know about the HK 430, but cannot take a chance on old gear.
Total cost under $400-500, new.
Is there a decent unit like this out there?
In the interim, will loan him a separates system from my office (I retired). PS Audio 4H, GAS Son of Amp, mod I, his DVD player or a Sony I got in the GW, maybe a Panasonic DVD/VCR. Unit in my office which was a tiny box, sounded very good, and sounds good in our bedroom.

Not sure on current street price, look at the Marantz entry A/V receivers. I have a 1605, it's rated at 50 watts but they seem to be quality watts, driving 3 Revel in-wall speakers fine in a medium size area. I was using an Okyo before that, I'm much happier with the sound of the Marantz, having more of a natural presentation of sound. Personally I think the richer sound would match vintage speakers better but that's a guess and subjective. The unit has been flawless and feature packed. It's an attractive option as well.
And he's quite pleased with it.
Their lower priced stuff has gotten decent reviews IIRC. Check them out.
Check out Yamaha!
Outlaw for a little more money is real audio equipment.
