Bose is no longer selling 901's, I wonder what Bose giant killer speakers will replace them?
Follow Ups:
I went to a friends house in the 70s. Lit up some libation and he played his brand new Sansui integrated amp and Bose 901 speakers. At that time I didn't know anything about audio. But I did know I wasn't impressed considering that was the best looking stereo I ever saw up to that point.
So the point of that story is even the Pot didn't make it sound better.
.
I bought a pair of series V1 in the late 80's and remembering having a lot of frustration getting them to sound decent I moved them all ofer the apt finally flipping them upside down on their stands and screwing them into the ceiling getting as close as the owners manual suggest. After that I got solid bass, room vibrating bass and the mids were fantastic though even with the active eq they sold with it treble, symbals, highs in general weren't well represented but still an interesting design that went loud, were efficient, and with patience could sound musical. But no model update in 30 years! Rode that mule into the grave.
The EQ ate a lot of power up if not used judiciously, 200 watts per channel if you really wanted to hear them go and eq'ed properly,
The Big Bose amp was made specifically for them ...
But think how many sub-par speakers could have sounded decent if they'd required you to use an equalizer to straighten things out. Seems like a bit of a band-aid to me.
I would like a Pr myself , from a time past and no more ....
The 901 had quite a run and quite the legend, love 'em or not, everyone knows them.
You have to wonder how long Klipsch will continue to offer the Heritage series. I suppose as long as it makes money for them.
I don't mean to hijack, but I can't think of any other speaker models that have had such a run through the decades like 901's or Heritage.
The Seas drivers are still available and but the company that sold them, Dynaco is gone. However a kit is still available from Madisound. That is a speaker that is something like 55 years old.
Vandersteen 2 series came out in the '70s and still in production. I can't think of too many others.

I called Bose and they told me that the 901's will be replaced with new reference floorstanding speakers in the near future.
I had the original 901s back in the day and just last year I bought the new series just to try them out. They were awful. I can't believe they sold that many pairs, I certainly didn't keep my second pair very long.
I kept My bought in 72? 901's only for a few weeks.
They were Absolutely Awfull speakers.
Stoopid expensive too.. Just to add Injury to Insult.
Interesting. This move will make the older series increase in value.
I hope! I have an old pair of Series II's that I'd like to sell.
