I suppose I will sound as an heretic to some but I am interested to know if anyone made a comparason between a Dunlavy Sc-V and the Golden Ear Triton One.
I will soon need to sell my Dunlavy and get something smaller within a very limited budget.
Hoping to have the sale of the Sc-V pay for most if not all of the replacement cost.
Need full range that can be driven with Pass X 250.5
Thanks for any coment or suggestion.

Hello,
I, too, own a pair of Vs. Do you know when yours were manufactured and what the serial numbers are? I am trying to determine when mine were built.
BTW, if you have the room for them, SC-IIIs or Alethas are both great speakers that will give you most of the Dunlavy sound in a manageable package.
There is someone looking for dunlavey speakers on audiogon.
Maybe Meadowlark Audio?
Claude-
look into Thiel loudspeakers.
Maybe search out a pair of Dunlavy Aletha's? I bought a pair for $1,500 a few years ago and they sit waiting to replace my SC-IV/A's should they ever crap out.
See ya. Dave
I have to agree with Jive Turkey. I have the X250.5 paired up with Dunlavy Athena's (Aletha's) and love the combination.

I recently bought a pair of Theil CS 2.2's and love them. Very coherent and balanced, great imaging and soundstage. Your Pass will handle them with ease. There is (was?) a pair being sold on ebay by a dealer for just over 1K. Or maybe 3.5's for not much more.
While there were other smaller speaker manufacturers who utilized time/phase coherent designs, Dunlavy (Duntech/DAL), Vandersteen, and Thiel were I believe the major ones. So there are many similarities in sonics.
However to my ears the Thiel speakers have a brighter presentation than Duntech/DAL and Vandersteen. So that becomes a matter of personal preference.
I've also read that Pass amps are particularly well suited to Thiels.

Will sound bright if its needs are not addressed properly.
Having said that, the best sounding Thiel speakers that I've heard when they were driven by Audio Research tube gear that include the ARC Ref pre amplifier.

The 2.2's are not bright. They don't have metal drivers (except for the aluminum dome tweeter) like later models have; at least in the "2" range.
drive the Thiel CS 3.6 as well with ease, which is much better.

Claude,
I owned Duntech Princess (older sibling to DAL SC-IV) for 19 years and sold them only because of a pending move which hasn't happened yet. Prior to those I owned Vandersteens and agree there is a similarity in sonics because Dunlavy and Vandersteen both design for time/phase coherency. So an appropriately sized/priced Vandy could be your answer.
FYI I ended up with Janszen zA2.1 (now called Valentina) and have been very pleased. Perhaps not quite as big a presentation nor as much low end weight as the Duntechs but otherwise better detail, HF extension, and image placement, all in a moderate sized package which can be placed closer to the front wall. And for a reasonable price.
Sorry, I've never heard the Golden Ear so no comment there.

1st order crossover design-similar to the dunlavey-but in smaller cabinets. Good luck
Yes the 5A Carbons in my opinion are the jewel in Richards fine collection
I'd own em!

Sorry, couldn't help myself.
I want to thank everyone for your input !
It seems clear the way to go is Theil or Wandersteen.
if you know of some available pairs please let me know, of course I would prefer a full range model.
Also let me know if interested in a pair of SC-V
Regards to all
Claude
