This speaker or any speaker this size or with this combination of strengths and weaknesses will probably never be one I would audition. My room is large, and I don't, in recent memory, recall listening to my system at low or even moderate levels (smile). And having just listened to a powerful pipe organ recording, "The Widor Mass", powerful bass is an important requirement. Nevertheless, I enjoyed your comments from bow to stern. I learned a few things and will pay attention to the Reference 3A line. Thanks.

Robert-
which speakers/subs do you use in your system?
Hey, thanks! It's funny that you write about the Widor Mass. I'm not familiar with that work, but reviewers always comment about bass response by making reference to pipe organs, as in, "you'll be fine with this speaker unless you listen to lots of pipe organ music." ;-)

I listen to music at close to live levels. For me, this is non-negotiable. Plus I demand that the speakers do this effortlessly! Small two-ways will never reproduce the dynamics of live music. And, yes, a speaker must be flat to at least 40 hz.
