Is the Scan Speak D2010/8513 tweeter from Madisound the exact replacement for the D2010 in my ProAc One SC?
On the ProAc tweeter it says
ProAc D2010
5147 322
Thanks,
Jim

Sorry but it is not. Proac tweeter has different dome coating and either has or doesn't have ferrofluid , I don't remember which way around. If you replace it with regular D2010 it will be more aggressive like all the cloners of 2.5 realised soon enough ,not to mention bye to resale value. Spendor may use regular D2010 but I read they have a habit of matching and documenting each pair of drivers they use in speakers and can supply perfect match for given set if needed . It costs money so they are more expensive but thats why you buy Spendor in the first place right? Because of strict quality control and sound. Your dealer must have thought that of the shelf scanspeak is going to be good enough for you ..
As far as the dealer ( QS&D )deciding the Madisound 2010 was " good enough" for me.... it was their opinion that the tweeter replacements offered by Spendor at over $400 were for the most part no different sonically than the Scanspeak 2010 offered at Madisound for around $140. A no-brainer for me as the 2/3's were pushing 10 years old at the time and a new version was on the horizon. The Madisound tweeters sounded excellent for what its worth.
As for the OP....my bad. Apparently ProAc has been tweaking this tweeter all along through the different versions of this speaker. I shouldn't have assumed all 2010's were created equal.

Sorry , didn't want to step on your foot (but I did , my bad). For my Proac S clone I also passed on $400 proac version and went to Hiquphon OWI which is few generations over old D2010. Sweet pie of a tweeter but it requires a crossover mod which for the clone is not a bigie. Original Proac would be a different kettle seeing like those Audiogon folks agonise over a single scratch. Regards, W
No prob. More my fault for assuming the ProAc was using a stock 2010 in the OP's case. Now I believe the Hiquphon tweeter you speak of is the same that's in my Salk SongTowers. This is indeed a sweet unit and superior to the 2010.
Wojciech, thanks very much. I was going to order from Madisound, but will call ProAc and get them there instead. The extra cost is not important, and obviously is justified.
Thanks again, glad you posted this now instead of in a couple days!

Same tweeter that was in my Spendor 2/3's. Bought my 2010 replacements from Madisound as Spendor wanted 2.5 times the price. Sonically they were a perfect replacement. Visually they lacked the Spendor logo on the outer ring of the tweeter assembly. Hardly worth the $250 difference. QS&D, the Spendor importer at that time actually recommended Madisound as this was the period when the dollar was getting thoroughly crushed by the British pound.
Thanks. Did you notice if it took a while to break them in?
Jim
Yes, there was a break in period , but I'd be hard pressed to remember how long. Probably in the 50-100 hour range if I were to guess. Nothing at all painful as I remember.
