I would appreciate feedback on Triangle Comete 30th Anniversary Loudspeakers. Thank you.
Follow Ups:
I would be curious about the difference btw these and the regular version.
I had the Comete ES and i liked them but the Reference 3A de Capos blew them out of the water. and since the Triangle Comete 30th models run about what you can get the de capos for used ..........
Thank you for your response Grinnell. Are you DeCapos the latest model? I like the idea of a minimal crossover. I used to own the Comete EX's and I liked them very much, but according to the Sam Tellig review the 30th Anniversary version are a different animal with their tweeters trickled down from the Magellan line. Tellig claimed he has never heard this level of refinement in the midrange and treble at their price point. The 30th Anniversary Cometes also have upgraded wiring, cabinet and other changes, but of course all of these changes do not necessarily mean it is as good as the DeCapos. I would love to compare them head to head, but that is not easy as both lines don't have a large number of dealers so if I buy one of the two it will probably be without an audition, but of course both brands have very good reputations so they can be sold on the used market without taking a total bath. I guess this is the problem many audiophiles face,
They are the latest model. But since so much of the speakers design is in the box will the tweeter upgrade make a big difference?
I used both of the speakers with a Primaluna int tube amp and i think the big difference btw the 2 were more detail and resolution especially at low volume levels with the De Capos, the bass was also huge deeper with them.
I bi-wired both.
Thank you again Grinnell for your input The changes to the 30th Anniversary Cometes that I am aware of are a better tweeter and better cabling to the woofer and tweeter. How large is the room you were using the Cometes? How much space do the DeCapos require from the front wall?
the room ( see pic ) is about 14 ft wide and 22 ft long with 8 ft openings to the dining room and foyer on each side. Speakers are about 3-4 ft from back wall.there are 2 large carpets in front of the speakers now.
Not an ideal setup but it works have great imaging.
here is an old photo with the Cometes, the de capos are spaced further apart and the chair is moved out of the way.

Thank you Grinnell. What is the closest you could place the DeCapos to the front wall? Do you know when the latest model was released?
Go to Stereophile.com and look up Sam Tellig's review. That woulds be one opinion....
Thank you for the info AudioSoul and thankfully I had the back issue of Stereophile, but I was not able to locate the Sam's Space columns on the Stereophile website,I located the other columnists, but not Sams.
