Hello all,A friend of mine has a set of Alon IVs. They are set up for a tri-wire speaker cable application but the guy only has two sets of cables and one jump set.
The cables are Colossus RevB from Purist Audio Design with PAD jumpers, the second set is Monarch Audio PCOCC. I assume based on pricing the PAD is the better cable.
So how should he configure the cables he has to best utilize the cables and obtain best performance?
My first thought is for him to use the PAD cables to the hi(tweeter input) then use the jumper to the mid range input. Use the PCOCC to the low(base input).
The speakers are really made for the Alon tri-wires but as times are tough we all have to make do with what we can. Any advise would be much appreciated, and thank you!
*will also post this on cable asylum.

I'm not familiar with those cables but what you propose doesn't sound unreasonable. It'll sound OK.
However, Alons are designed for (and really do sound best) tri-wired. The cheapest and simplest way to do that is by purchasing Carl's own Black Orpheus cables, which aren't the last word in cabling (where you can easily spend thousands) but are excellent on the IVs. After all, they were designed by the speaker designer to complement his product.
You'd have to spend a boatload of green to get a significant improvement (triwire ain't cheap) so just go for the Black Orpheus. An 8' run can usually be found on Audiogon for around $150 or so.
Using the existing wire is OK for a stop-gap and the speakers will still be enjoyable, but your friend won't hear the Alon IVs at their best until they are tri-wired. I had Alon Vs for years and tried several different combos, bi and tri: tri worked the best by a good margin.
You're probably right "Carl's own" is likely the best way to go when using Alons. My friend is currently exploring that purchase option with a member of AA that was gracious enough to PM me. Thank you!
Thanks to all for your comments and of course a special thanks to Frank for setting us all straight on 12 gauge zip cord!
.....nobody responded to your stupid question because you should just use one set of wires and be done with it. Bi or Tri wiring has ZERO benefits. Also those wires you already have are way too pricey. For God's sake just use 12 gauge zip cord and be done with it.
No such thing as stupid questions, just stupid answers!
.....stupid questions and stupid people. You've proved me correct.
I will refer you to the great poet Forest Gump. "Stupid is ............
:O)
This place is sorely lacking for levity and I applaud you sir for providing a brief interlude from the madness :-)
12 gauge zip cord huh?
~
Prove me wrong about using anything more expensive.....oh wait you can't. You're just subjective and don't believe in real tests huh? So blah blah blah away about pricey speaker wire.
