I have owned this speaker for 25 years and have been extensively searching for a replacement but each candidate comes up short - either in bass response, dynamics or musical enjoyment. How far have we not come in 25 years? Do I really have to spend over $100,000 to find a replacement? Were these speakers so far ahead of there time and so reasonably priced ($5200) that they are still at the top of the speaker food chain?

You would be a fool not to keep them.
Did you ever hear the IRS Beta? I haven't heard the RS1B but I have heard the RS2B and the IRS Beta was light years ahead of this. You can find used Betas for $6000 or so. A used Gamma/Delta would also give you great sound.
The Infinity Epsilon was a very very good 1 box solution.
Finally, look at the Genesis 300 or 350se (preferrable). The 300 can be had for $7K and the 350se for around $10K. This is a GREAT sounding loudspeaker from the man who invented your RS1B.
I believe they are one of the best speaker systems ever. They offer so much of what people are after today, bass, dynamics, excellant mids and highs. I wish speaker similar speaker designs of today were not so expensive.

And one of Arnie's best designs. They sound their best with Audio Research tube gear, a top quality front end and better cables will really pay dividends.
If you ever need the woofers re-coned contact Bill at Millersound, they'll sound better than new. Enjoy them!
