I'm looking for bookshelf speaker for my Cayin A70T tube amp (55 watt/channel) with 600USD budget.Mostly ,I listen jazz fussion with a lot of instrument.Due to limited brand in local store, candidates are: JMlabs 706V (sentivity 90dB), B&W 685 (sentivity 88dB).
Well , need your help to choose.I can't bring my amp to store to do listening test, is too heavy ....:)
cheers

I have a Luxman SQ-N100 (12 watts) driving a pair of 705Vs and they work great together, very dynamic sounding. My friend owns an Almarro A318B (18 watts) driving a pair of 806Vs and he is also very happy.

I have a pair of cobalt 815's that sound so very fine with tube gear but not with Solid state. I have heard other JMLab/Focal owners say similar things.
I don't really have a good frame of reference on the B&W's but my guess is that they will be more in the middle and work well with both.
Well, it looks everybody love JMLabs..:)
Yesterday, I visited local store and listened "Get down on it " Wayman Tisdale use 706V ,685 and Dali Ikon pair with Musical Fidelity A 5.5 int amp (SS).
Impressed with 706v performance.Tight bass, good middle and high, the sound make me dance..:)
At the time, for me 706V better than 685 and Dali Ikon.It seem it will become my next speaker, except I get Dynaudio 1.3 Contour (used) with "good price".
I can't say for sure about the 685, but being a former Focal dealer I'd say that the 706V should work very well for you.
Either will do, pick the speaker you like the best. I use a VTL ST85 tube amp with my MerlinTSMMXE speakers wich are 87db sensitive. My amp is 80 watts but in triode only 35 and they sound good both ways.
Focal 706V speaker working on 4-8 OhmMy Cayin A-70T amplifier power having 55 watts per channel in Ultralinear and 26 watts in Triode .
Which one should be better, using 4 OHM or 8 OHM amp output?

If i were you i'd try it both ways and hear which tap sounds better to you. If the 8 works better use it, if the 4 sounds better to you use that. Just listen and you'll know what you like.
