I concur with this reviewer's posting in the Harbeth users group.
I had the same impressions when I auditioned a pair.

What bulls***; he doesn't have *any* idea what that means, just like noone else does. It sounds impressive, though!
maybe he's referring to microdynamical fruity overtones. I'm thinking its a very musically coherent loudspeaker but I've always wondered if the cabinents contribution to it's overall character is similar to the SP-100s. Wish we had a dealer around here cause I'd really like to hear a pair.
Give me rhythm or give me death!
Ha! Much as I loved my two pairs of SP100s, I started suspecting that the cabinet was giving its wooden tone to everything, which is fine as long as wooden instruments are listened to. It is the nicest, sweet sound, though!

The cabinets contribution to the overall sound is a part of it's design. How one places the speaker and choses associated equipment plays a big part in how the SP100s sound in the end. But for my taste the cabinet stuff doesn't have to be a big issue with these speakers for me it's ultimately a response on the slowish side, or maybe a HF that's a bit too rolled off that are IMO the weakest parts of the design. None the less it manages to be a really nice sounding loudspeaker that I've enjoyed for more than 7 years.
I've just wondered if the cabinets of the Harbeth speakers made a similar contribution as do the cabinets on the Spendors?

I believe some of the Harbeths are designed with the same lossy techniques and goals. The 40.1s appear to have a monstrously difficult lowend to accomodate, although REG from TAS, a favorite reviewer, went nuts over them in the current issue.
No matter for me, though; I'm permanently stuck on active speakers now! Although a pair of SP100s with a good electronic x-over and 6 channels of amplification sounds fun!

I wouldn't have my micro-spatial cues any other way.
Best Regards,
Chris redmond.
The speakers were positioned on the floor not on stands?
