Hi guys,
I heard the westlakes some time back and I am still passionately in love with the sound! Since these are so expensive the best I can dream of are the LC 8.1f. Now, in Russia (where I am now) the only dealer has them for $6k. (If you don't know about this model but can give an indication of another model please at least do that so that I can compare it to the price demanded here).
Not much info on the net (can't find any US dealers through google) but it seems to me that they are about 3x cheaper in the US? Is this true? Because in that case I can buy myself a return plane ticket and get them and save about $3k..
Does anyone know how much they cost in the US? Any dealers? Because if there IS a threefold difference in price then if Westlake ARE so conceited it might be worth looking at alternatives for that price (I have accepted the fact that Europe will forever be way overpriced but this would be pushing it). Because no matter how good the Westlakes are I am sure at that price point there will be something more competitive.
Thanks to anyone who can comment on this!!!
Follow Ups:
I got to listen over several sessions to a large pair of Westlake Studio Monitors about a year ago - expensive. I didn't like them at all. I felt they sounded dull and lifeless. My friend only had them for about a month then decided they had to go. These were about 12k new I believe.
Westlakes are expensive everywhere. And they are very heavy so shipping will be very expensive. Your best bet maybe to find a used pair in Europe.
Some of their designs can be copied. Start with a TAD or Fostex woofer, add a JBL or Audax midrange, next a Fostex horn or even AH horn. Top it off with a super tweeter if you think you need it. IF you want a Smith horn that might be harder to source.
Your still looking at 3-4K USD.

Go to the website and send Westlake an e-mail for a distributor on the east coast of the US. (I'm guessing that would be closest to you). Then ask the dealer for a quote. Sorry I can't give you more information than that.
