Anyone had a chance to hear either of these two new speakers ? At $1,700 and $2,300 they are a very attractive proposition from price and build quality point of view . ERA speakers have their own forum elsewhere but though they have been out for 2 months now, there have seen no comments or reviews on their sound. Their older siblings, the D$ and D5, have received rave reviews.

I went back to our home town store and my partner and I saw that they had moved the D14's to another room. My sales guy suggested Serge I give them another good listen. The mid bass "problem" that we heard before was greatly reduced. Now I was getting that smooth ERA sound that I heard with the D5's, plus lower output then the D5"s. As I said in my earlier post these are smooth, easy speakers to listen to, plus they disappear really well. Prince never sounded so exciting. I think the difference this time was the following: They where fresh out of the box when I first heard them. Room and room placement was not explored yet. The new location and room placement made a difference (this always seems to be true at our loft also).I'm now going to arrange to take these home for a few days and see how they work in my room. Hold on these may be "Proac" killers yet. I will post again after our in home audition, a couple of beers, and things.
I listened for awhile with the D14's. Like a lot of speakers that come out after really good mini moniters, they do not make the cut. The mid bass is very bad. We tried diffenet rooms and different positions. The only thing that help was stuffing the ports with foam plugs. This helped the mid bass but took away the low output. At this point the D5's covered the same range. With the plugs out the midrange/vocals where ruined. The D14's are like the rest of the Era line very smoth in the top end. I prefer the Era highs to the B&W 804s that I had for a few months. Maybe the D10's do not have the mid bass problem, our store did not order a pair and probably will not after hearing the D14's. A pair of the D5's and a sub would be better then the D14's.
