I don't mean the mythical ones. There's a company that advertizes under that name on Audiogon.
Buddy wants to spend little to get decent sound for his home theater system. Of course, he asked what he can get that sounds good for music as well. Traveling the ads I found the White Van company, but have no idea if this stuff is real crap or mediocre, or decent for a low price. We're not talking world beater here...
FWIW, for about $300 or so you can get the well reviewed EPOS line of speakers and Stereophile well reviewed others for both uses. I'd have no trouble recommending them to him. So if you're familiar with the low price end of speakers and you have any experience with White Van, where do these guys fit in there IF at all?
Follow Ups:
White van guys stopped me this week in the local Home Depot parking lot. I've never met a White van guy before. As soon as i got out of my car i hear a voice coming from the White van - "I know this sounds crazy but i have some great stereo speakers in here."
He looked me right in the eyes and locked on. I thought it was a joke at first but it wasnt. It was a real White van guy in a real White van... which was White!
His teeth were not white tho. They were stained and his compadre was all peirced and tatted up - two guys in their 20's probably.
So i looked into the van and saw boxes of speakers and dvd players. some boxes were open and some were closed. He pulls into a spot and opens the side door. Then he pulls out a professionally printed flyer with what looked like the same speakers selling for nearly $3,000! There was also a complete surround sound option available too.
Suddenly an older guy appeared and claimed he just bought a set of these for his wife and she loves them. He looked like the 40 year old version of these guys. He went on and on pointing to the flyer sayig "yup, the same ones!" That's when i walked away. I didnt believe him and thought he must have been a plant and they all were working together. Either that or these guys were ligit and that older guys wife really loves her speakers!
Peace,
Godzilla
I meant the company that uses the name and logo as a gag to advertize on Audiogon. I don't know if they are legit, legit but sell shit, or relatives of the guys you met in a parking lot.
In fact, any time somebody's wife comes up to you unsolicited and tells you how much she likes her husband's speakers, you SHOULD be suspicious.
Bwahhahhaha!
I always wondered how those people stayed in business, know I know. Still one born every minute.
do your homework, watch e-bay or audiogon. Stick with well known brands. Even on e-bay there are tons of scams.
