Thanks, Sordidman, for the advice to be patient with the Watt/Pup 8. Right now, they have pulled even with the 7, and I am expecting them to surpass it, if Terry Menacher at Overture is to be believed. (A nice guy, and a great store.) My experience with break-in sure stirred up a hornet's nest! Those who reject the whole idea tend to be sarcastic, not to say hostile. Sure I take "copious" notes, but only during break-in. Once they are singing,I just sit back with eyes closed and bathe in the wonderful sound Wilson speakers can make. After a lifetime with KLH, Canton, Acoustic Energy, Thiel, and JM Lab speakers, I am a happier than ever before.

Follow Ups:
Go hear to see the measurements of a broken in pair of WIlson W/P 7s and you can see all the FR peaks and distortion peaks to which you break in as you listen. The brain is a wonderful thing. I can't smell Subway bread because I work right next to one. Everyone else comments on it every day. You just block all this stuff out.The first time you listen to a speaker is probably the most honest you'll be with yourself.

And your experience with NST doesn't apply.....Until you've heard the speaker, - you don't know about it, - or how it sounds. You can't tell what a speaker sounds like based on its measurements as every component sounds different with different associated equipment in certain rooms. What "appears" to be some "flaw" in a speaker's measured performance may not actually be present or may not be "heard" in certain rooms, with certain amps, cables and sources.
The poster's statement is valid as you're not only passing judgment on something that you haven't any experience with, but you're telling the poster what they hear and what they don't: that's projecting.
It would be an entirely different story if you made your comments AFTER you sat down with him, had a nice glass of wine, and then told him that you don't think that he's right...

....people constantly say that their speaker has broken in so that it doesn't have the problems I point out. So I go listen. The problem sure still is there, but they've tuned it out. Or they bought a cable or amp or CDP that "fixes" it. It didn't. Still there. Same issues. I see it so often that, sure, I'm taking that leap that this is more of the same. You can't fix a 6dB dip between two drivers with cables, amps, CD players. But you *can* fix it with your mind. Doesn't much matter to me, as long as he's happy. But maybe, just maybe, the difference between a Wilson fan and a non-Wilson fan is the ability to "wrap your head around" their sound and bend to their flavor. I say this because so many people seem to dislike their sound. Maybe their brains take longer to break in that some. That's a whole lot more likely than one brand of speaker taking longer to break in than another!

Listen to the speaker, - then your poor guessing, - will be replaced by the knowledge of first hand experience....

Wilson makes far better speakers than your beloved NHT, Asshole.

The NHT Xd system won Best of CES for High End Audio, and several NHT models are on Stereophile's Recommended Components list. Why don't you relate to us your close, personal experience with these speakers which justifies your harsh judgment of them?

Great speakers, - you are on to something special, - IMO...Yeah, - I don't want to get drawn into that debate either. The subject has been covered, - and I must admit that friends who have been had similar experiences say the same things that I do: (so it's not just my neurosis, or at least it's shared)! :-)
With those special cabinets, driver torque settings, and "heavier" dampening, of your speakers, - it is my hypothesis that it is that kind of configuration, - also present in Talon, - that leads to longer break-ins. My two good friends who own Sophias can attest to their longish break in time. They're both really happy kids right now..
