Say you had around $1500 and wanted to pull the old Anthem Integrated One out of the closet, what would you hook up to them?

Follow Ups:
You answered this one yourself not too long ago. I was going to try a pair out with my little EICO integrated. They should fit the bill just fine @97 dB sensitivity:

Merle, what has changed since 1/05/05? Did the Klipsch self destruct?

The Klipsch are in use in another system. Some of us have more than one set-up. :) The Klipsch do match well with the Anthem but I would prefer to have different speakers in different systems. Would be kind of boring to have the same speakers thruout the house, don't you think? There are also Paradigms and Meadowlarks being used in the house at this time, so I'm not looking for another pair of those either.

I was just having a little fun with you, Merle. I'm in the same boat - aside from my regular stereo and HT setups, i'm playing with AR3a, Advent 2, Axiom M22, Klipsh T-30, GMA Europas, PSB Alpha Bs and a strange old pair of Luxman standmounts in various sytems. Can't recommend any of these for your set-up, but maybe it's time for you to try the Audio Notes and let us know if they're all that.
I also have several systems and lots of spares in the closet. On a lark, so to speak, I recently bought some Tyler Acoustic Linbrook Systems full range speakers. I broke them in on my main system and for some reason (2 months later) they are still there. I fear they may replace my Paragons, which replaced Quad 63's. Tyler makes a Linbrook monitor which uses two Seas 7" drivers and a Seas Millenium tweeter in an MTM arrangement. You see these for sale often in Audiogon for around or less than 2K. These should be supurb speakers in that price range (based on my experience - my speakers use the same mid-range and tweeter, just crosses out the 7'' speakers at 150hz and adds 2 8" woofs. The monitor is rated down to 40hz. You should do some research on this speaker - you might like it.

Come now Merle - you've been around - you should be able to find a LOT of speakers that can work with 25 watts - almost everything out there - the question is which one is going to sound good to you - and umm no one here can answer that.

My JM Reynaud Twins are mighty small in size but they sure do sing (and make me dance...) with less than 25 tube watts. My understanding is that the JMR line only gets better as one goes further up the chain...

Hi Dave, apparently you have some familiarity with ProAcs? I'm looking to replace my 1s' that I run fullrange along with a Genesis subwoofer. I love the way my ProAc 1s/sub sounds--not that it couldn't exhibit even more detail/presence/holography, etc.--but my primary caveat is ultimate volume, just not enough in my medium/large room.To get to the point, I know you have the Ref III's which I have not been able to audition yet, but on paper seem to fit my needs (although I'm concerned about the reputed low image height). I'm very interested in them, particularly with the optional sub amp.
Would you be able to compare the ProAc sound to the Gallo for me?
I'll try. My speakers went from ProAc Response 2s to Response 3s to Gallo Nucleus Ultimates to Gallo Ref 3s, and the Response 2s now live with the guy who designed and built my SET amps so I still hear them occasionally. The Response 2s are fine speakers but they sound very boxy to me now after owning two models of the "boxless" Gallos. Also, I like the Gallo CDT tweeter much more than the ProAc dome. And finally, the Gallos "disappear" to a much greater degree than the ProAcs and have a terrific soundstage.Regarding your concerns, the Ref 3 height is adjustable and they sound just as "big" as the 4-ball, 58" high Ultimates, if not bigger. My room is 18 x 40, with an"L" off the back that makes for even more volume. Audio folks and "civilians" alike have marveled at the musicality, unusual clarity (again, partly because of no box), and punchiness of the Ref 3s in my large room. And they're driven by 12 wpc SET monoblocks.
Regarding the bass: I've driven the second voice coils with an external stereo amp very successfully, but I like them better with my pair of HSU subs driven by the same amp, crossed over (in both cases) at 43 Hz. Quite honestly, I'm dying to try the Gallo sub amp, as soon as one arrives at the dealer. The Ref 3 bass is pretty darn good without augmentation, though.
I hope you have a chance to hear these things. If you buy them, I think you'll be entranced by them (once the hellacious break-in period is over).

Perfect!!! Thanks again :).

You are using the REF 3 with a 12 watt SET and it is enough power?? I was considering these speakers but I dodnt think that my 8 watt SET would drive them?? I thought they needed at least 50 watts to really sing? I guess I was wrong. How do the REF 3 do on Rock music??

While I don't try to wake the dead (or The Dead) with my system, ordinarily, my rock-loving friend (I'm mostly into jazz and classical) and I have cranked the Ref 3s on rock more than once and never come close to running out of power. I know that Gallo recommends 50 watts minimum, but I also know that the final pre-production tweaking of the Ref 3s -- or at least some of it -- was done using a 10-watt amp.My SETs, granted, are no wimps, with giant Magnequest trannies, 845 output tubes, EL-34B drivers, and 6N7 input tubes (3 tubes, total, per channel), but they sure deliver the goods with the Ref 3s.
I think your 8-watters would do just fine, but I could be wrong.

All depends on what kind of music you are listening to. There are plenty of speakers out there that will sound good with 25 watts as long as you dont expect to fill a warehouse sized room with loud music. As long as the speakers are 88ds/watt sensitive or better and not to current hungry you shouldnt have a problem. A few that come to mind that are good all around speakers are..

5. Soliloquy 5.0Those are just to nmame a few that work well with low powered tube amps, there are probably hundreds more choices to pick from. Really depends on what you listen to and how large your room is.
