Maybe I'm behind the times, but have noticed over the past few weeks a bunch of high end, almost new cables on ebay. They are sourced from.....(Ta-Da) China.
Lots of Nordost Odin and such, they have DIY in the listing but the pic clearly show 'Nordost' on the cable. Not ever having been able to afford these fine cable, I would like to borrow $99.00 (USD) for one of the inmates to buy one! I'll certainly report back with a review and let everyone know the sonic signature of this fine cable. I'm expecting a midrange tinged with MSG with a bit of Dim Sum flavor to the bass. Does anyone who knows of Odin really bite on this?
Do I think for a second that they are real?
Heck, they aren't coming from China, but rather from the UK, so that makes them more genuine, right?
BUT - is there a chance that they'd be better than anything else you could buy at $60 or $70 bucks? That is quite possible.
As far as Nordost goes? I like some of their stuff, and currently use a pair of their "Super Flatline MKII biwire" speaker cables to drive my Gallo Nuc Ref 3s.
Aren't most of the high-priced cables made in China anyways? Certainly the wire, if not the entire construction. Why would anyone in China bother actually counterfeiting these cables when it's far more effective to tap off the real factory line, cutting out all those pricey middlemen & cutting into their outrageous markups. Of course, nothing guarantees we're not talking about substandard/reject or badly "corner-cut" production here, even if off the "genuine" line.
The genuine product's packaging/boxing, however, is usually "proudly" made in the USA, or whatever country of origin the parent company would like you to believe. It's just not worth the trouble to counterfeit those believably, which is why they're absent. They're a de-facto "certificate of non counterfeit/non-grey-market-ness/authenticity".
I bought some of these China based "Nordost" cable for $60. The picture on the website showed the cable with the name Nordost on the cable. The cable I received did not have the name Nordost on the cable. Definitly counterfeit. Quality was about equal to a $60 cable. This is a scam
