After seeing my friend upgrade to a 58" HDTV, & holding out on buying one because i still had a 60" rear projection in good working order (also waiting for price's to go down), i decided to buy a new HDTV & get rid of the old one! I spotted the perfect TV, Samsung 60" LED LCD, with a good price of $2503 from FuturePower PC. They said they had 1 in stock with free shipping, so i placed an order. Then i get an email saying i have to contact them...they said they were out of stock, but could ship direct from the manufacturer for an extra $300! The nerv! I told them screw you (not literally) & placed an order somewhere else, for almost the same amount! So not ripped off. Just pissed off that they wasted my time & tried to take me for an extra $300!(just venting) Who else has had a similar experience?

I had something similar happen when buying my last Sony Flat screen. I shopped online and found the best price by several hundred bucks. I placed the order but then had a question and called the place. During the conversation I happened to ask about warranty issues and was told the TV would have to be shipped back to Japan as it was all in Japanese. Yep, all the menus and controls had no ability to display in English. I canceled the order right away as too good to be true was just that. No where on their website or in adds did they mention anything about the TV not being in English.
That's a common line from a lot of the... "shady east coast dealers". They pull it out with cameras as well.
Rarely is an item, even grey-market, "only in japanese". Few if any electronic devices with displays are not internationalized these days. Take a look at your TV. It'll likely have language options other than English.
The reason they say that to you, is so they can say "...and if you want the English version that'll be another $300."
There was no "Japanese-only" version on the first place. They just wanted to get the extra $$ out of you or have you walk.
I then bought the same TV that day for about a hundred dollars more. And ten mins. after purchase i get a call..they want me to buy $150 worth of insurance, the same insurance the other company offered for $10 @ time of purchase! I told em forget it! "if there's any damage i would'nt accept the shipment"! Then they sent me a notice that i had to inspect the TV(visibly, plug in/ect) before signing! Then the delivery guy would'nt let me inspect it before signing, but assured me if it did'nt work he would take it back. Well it's been a couple weeks & the TV was fine & works great! Sure beats the old analog/old style/ect TV i used to have! HAPPY ENDING!!
