I will not name any names,as I have an "agreement" with an audio designer and manufacturer.
The guy that I am talking about received money from me for a schematic for an amp that he designed, and despite pleading and threatening letters sent to him via snailmail across an 8 year period never sent the schematic which I had paid 224 for,or even bothered to reply to my letters.
Later,I saw his ads on the net and decided to force the issue.I sent him an email to the effect that if he did not send out the schematic within 10 days,I would make public many complaints against him by dissatisfied customers. At the same time I invited people with gripes against him to email me with the details.
A well known AA vigilante wrote me that the guy in question is a well known scumbag and that people are afraid of him.
3 hours before the 10 day ultimatum was up I received an email saying that the schematic was sent out to me.
About 2-4 years later I ordered a power transformer from the same guy that weighed over 20 lbs.
It was sent out to me via USPS international airmail wrapped ONLY IN NEWSPAPER.it arrived completely twisted and bent, but fortinately a friend was able to hammer it back into shape and it worked.
I never wrote to him about his special packing, there was no point.
I am quite sure that the packing was retribution for the schematic story.
Any other juicy stories?

Was available for the amp that this guy designed only from him.I had been looking for one for over 10 years.I knew that I was taking a risk.
I half way expected him to make an effort to be OK,second time around,as my threats of exposing his shenanigans the first time had certainly had some effect on him.
BTW,my worst experience that I repeated 5 times(!!!!!) was with AJ vandenHul,whom I know to be brilliant and honest, but oh so incompetent when it comes to retipping.
Out of 7 retipping jobs that he did for me,5 were botched.I refused to stop believing in him until I could not take it any more. And,he refused to believe me,which put the lid on.I still believe that vdHul is an honest guy, overworked,or over-extended.

wait...so some guy took you for $22 and you harassed him for 8 years? you know, it sucks getting screwed over, but when you weigh $22 vs. 8 years of harboring a grudge, i think you lose. and to turn around and order from the same guy again is just flat stupid.

I hear you.The grudge was a matter of principle. When I saw him advertising himself on the net after a few years of silence,I thought that I had an opportunity to set a wrong right. It wasn't the 22$,but that I really needed a schematic as ,in the country where I live-there are only 2 such amplifiers, and if something should go wrong...
I ordered again because I had no choice,I had been looking for years for a 220V transformer(power) instead of the stock 110V.I thought what the hell, after what he had been through with me,he wouldn't risk a repeat performance.
Principle trumps money every time......................Americans as a whole would be far better off if they exercised the same vigilance with our voted in constituents ie. yes means YES/no means NO.

My favorite scumbag is an audio manufacturer that requires a prepayment for his gear. For a while I tried selling his gear. He announced an upcoming price increase. I took a prepayment from a customer, after explaining that I had to send in and that he would be placed on a waiting list, at least a couple of months long. His check came in, I mailed off his order, and sent an eMail to the one man operation. When I got my bank statement, I noticed my check hadn't been cashed. I called and was asked why I didn't send the order by Registered mail?
OK. He claimed he didn't get the check.
I contacted the customer and asked if he wanted to go ahead, cause I doubted that my check hadn't arrived. He wanted to. So, I mailed off another check, Registered mail. I got the receipt back.
After two months, the check hadn't been submitted.
I called and was told he wasn't on the list, cause by the time they got the deposit the price had gone up and the deposit didn't cover the new price.
I called the customer. He wanted to know if I had cash on hand to give him a refund. Since the manufacturer never submitted my check the customer's funds were available. I sent a refund to him, paid a fee to stop payment on my check.
The manufacturer sold an amp directly to the customer. I had the cashed check I sent to the customer over my desk for at least ten years.
It reminded me to never do business with an out of state audio company that doesn't have stock to sell, even if their products have ionosphere ratings.
Great designer, horrible people skills, and WACKO business ethics.
