I'm in the process of acquiring an Emotive Audio Caelii. Anybody heard this 300B monoblocs before. I would like to hear some comments from folks here with golden ears. It will be paired up with Edgarhorns Titans 2. Cheers!
Follow Ups:
Are the monos coming with the original WE300B tubes? If not, think seriously about buying a new pair of ELROG 300B tubes as a replacement for whatever 300B tubes the amps have in them now.
The ELROG's are down on power. I've never measured mine, but a SET mfr. told me that 9W was more like 6W. But that won't make any difference with your speakers. These tubes don't sound "better" than the late model WE300B. But they do sound better. It strikes me that they are better balanced and bit more "alive": I hesitate to say "dynamic" because the dynamics of 300B amps/tubes kind of creeps up on you.
"These tubes don't sound "better" than the late model WE300B. But they do sound better."
I apologize, but you are going to have to splain that to me.

But apparently, I had "better" on my brain.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Its got the KR300BXLS.
I can't imagine anyone even considering buying expensive gear without actually having heard it themselves. What the hell is anyone else's opinion going to tell but how they think it sounds? You have to be nuts or have too much money if you spend those kind of bucks without hearing it first.
Your post ought to ask if anyone leaves near you that owns one so you could come listen to it. Even if you have to drive a couple hundred miles it would be worth it.

Viniei2, now I'm scared to ask.. I was going to ask what you guys think of the Wavac SH-833. But...never mind.
I think it's pretty. Does that help?
If you are trying to narrow down a list of amps to go look at, it makes sense to ask what we think. If you say I have bought this even though I have never heard one, it does not. The horse done left the barn, so don't bother closing the door.

There was one that was under contract at hifi shark for, like, $5,000 CAD.
QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELVES : Wonder why the guy is selling it? Nature of the beast? Beast being human being . Found something better...or....worse?? Doesn't know what he owns ???
Cool questions. This happens with audio gear a lot.
How smart is this guy in audio? How smart was he originally to buy it? One thing we know, if he paid retail, he was smart enough to put aside $21 K and spent 20+ big ones for a pair of amps.

I suppose I can ask those questions...
and his wife/estate is selling it.
This forum is highly polluted with people who hear God speak whenever they write. Try to find professional reviews or owners using systems similar to yours (speakers, wiring, sources, etc). Anything else is an excercise in futility. In particular, don't believe a word of narcissistic naysaying about the equipment you're contemplating. It's posted solely for the benefit of the author(s).

He's here to GIVE them! :-)
Well said... but it's always entertaining to read it though
Oh, wait...

I used to live in State College, and played at audio stuff with Fred as often as I could. The circuit for the Epifania amp was mine. Our collaboration resulted in the E-Linear PP amps whose circuit was independently arrived at, although in SE configuration by Pete Millett( and written up in AudioXpress under that name). The SE 300B's are quite good, for SE amps( IMO; I don't fancy that for Hi-Fi at all ).
Drop me a note if you wish to discuss further...:)
cheers,
Douglas

OK,Here, in my opinion only, just looking only, never hearing this amp, but I think I already know, of what is wrong with that:
(1) It looks like its three stages, rather than two.
(2) It seems to have a coupling cap in it, the worst possible way to couple..
(3) It uses a 300B tube, not the best tube.
(4) It has large, single, conventional-looking choke, and likely, a high DCR B+ filter.
(5) Its RCA jacks, are located way too far away from the input tube's grid.
(6) It seems to use an added cathode follower stage, which is sort of like having anal sex with a woman, rather than vaginal.
You should have built your own, and done a whole lot better than that.
JUST MY opinion. I certainly don't think like everyone else. YMMV of course ! You asked us to respond !!

Ask how a Output Tranny would feel? 2 or 3 bundle of wires going to the output of the output tranny!

.Thou shall not stand where I type for I carry a bottle of Certified Audiophile Air and a Pure Silver Whip.
Hope yours aren't tie wrapped together after the end bell's exit, IF it uses an end bell. What about those that don't ??!! Yeah, I know, you will inform us all " the wires touch in the wind ". Ha !
At least, you are consistent. Have a good day !!
Jeff Medwin
You might change your mind. Armchair theorizing can only take you so far.
You are right about one thing though. It would be nice to have the input jack right next to the tube.

Yes for sure. keep it coming. I'm taking notes
Espcially #6, which I am sure he must have SOME first hand information (one way or the other) ;-)
Ivan !!Howz it going??
I have wanted to tell someone that analogy, MY own analogy, about Cathode Followers for a long tome, and now, do so - when I still can. This was the time !! In my immature mind, I find it hilarious.
Does anyone recall the SET amp shootout in Terry Cain's RMAF room, after hours, with the Art Audio, etc etc,- and Dennis' Serious Stereo 2A3?? It wiped out everything, and Joe Fratus stood up and gave Dennis a standing ovation !! Its gotten a bit better, over time.

That said, Joe is a good guy so I'm not that surprised.
Those were magic!
LMAO...cammon now... be nice
I've heard some of his earlier amps at CES (recall one year his amps were featured in the 'Symposium Acoustics' vibration control/isolation devices room).
One of the better sounding rooms at CES that year.
I don't recall what electronics he was running, but, it really did sound very good. I know one of the sources was a reel to reel that was playing production master tapes (one was of Nat King Cole) that were unbelievably vibrant and alive.
I miss that old venue for CES, it was so easy to get around and go from room to room.
And.... so you heard one of his amps... how was it? It was between an art audio or the Emotive Audio Caeli and I went with the Caeli...hope the decision is right.
but something like PP 6L6?
Anyone who can make PP 6L6 sound that good, I'd buy their 300B amp in a heartbeat (if I could afford it).
Thinking he gets $20K for the 300B mono-blocks.
I've heard a few old RCA 6L6 amps, Northern Electric amps and quite a few others. I like them a whole lot more than other tetrode/pentode amps with the likes of EL34s, 6550, KT-88. . .
If you haven't already done so, you may want to reach out to Fred Volz and see if he has any updates for the Caelis.
The Caelis should be great sounding amps. I never had a chance to hear them but talked to Fred Volz about them a couple times. I eventually went with a pair of custom Vita amps and have been very pleased. I am sure you will be too. Enjoy!
