Hi Steve.. On the Webster/Hammonds, i don't use the center tap.. i cap it off... I use the two outer leads,(full primary winding) one of which is blue and the other usually white.. i connect the Blue lead to B+ and the white lead to the plate..
i have found that some of these OPT's have a DC resistance of 120 ohms, others have 60 ohms.. i use the full primary in both cases and find that they seem to work fine...
Follow Ups:
Well I was wondering how to give this a try... I was thinking about an old Heathkit AA-151 integrated (6BQ5) at home. I could pull one output tube on each side, connect the remaining 6BQ5 for triode and move the B+ to the unused plate lead and see what happens. I know it ain't a SET, but hey, the power would be about the same as a 45, and the current through the opt would be about the same, too. Worth a try?
