Mak,Listen... When I was in college the proffesor and tech that where showing me tube stuff told me one thing. Use the tube for what it was expected and it will do you no wrong. So I see in some mag someone triode wiring a ST70. I run in and ask about doing this they said bring you r amp in. So I brought in my Mark III and ST70. We tested it first in Pentode then triode wired. What a mistake...
Listen use the tube for what it is intended as. Not something it's not...
I am not saying if the tube is a deflector or something non-audio it can't be used in audio. I am saying don't convert pendodes into triodes it's a waste of time and energy.

You got to be kidding. Don't you know you cannot change an ST70 to triode without changing the output transformer turns ratio to get optimum performance? Why don't you put 2A3s into the ST70 without changing the output tranny and see how it sounds. I would have thought you would have known this. It is so simple.
We won't mention Stereophile's review.

Back to your post. You could have opened a technical discussion with Gordon and asked him direct questions - instead of puffing up like a peacock, blowing your horn and attempting to put him down.
I am aware that specifications are more your schtick than musicality, that you are a pure "objectivist" engineer in that way, and that you consider triodes to be euphonic, poor in bass, generally inferior to pentodes, even in single ended applications. And here you are, at a single-ended TRIODE forum, taking pot-shots at one of the pioneers of the SET renaissance. Yes, I understand that you are trying desperately to convince people that your KT88 SE amps are "SET amps," and vastly superior to 300B's,2A3's, 45's, etc. I'm still waiting for the world of SET fanatics to accept your pentode-powered "SET" amps as the best thing since the electric light bulb.
BTW, I own an excellent KT88 SE stereo amp - quiet, relatively powerful, very well made, and I don't call it a SET amp because it uses pentode tubes for output. Your amps may be very good for what they are, however, most folks I've talked to use the term SET amp to refer to amps that use triode output tubes. Somehow, I feel that you're attempting to jump on the SET bandwagon, and then putting down SET purists.
Do you feel that slapping people in the face with engineering data and a bad attitude is preferable to classic, civil business practices? Do you really think that this is a good way to promote your products??Dave van Harn
I know this forum believes the T to represent Triode however many believe it to mean transformer. My reasoning is... if the physical device has two extra parts (G2, G3) but you wire them as accepted to be 'triode mode', the curves are triode shaped curves... i.e. it _IS_ a triode output device when wired that way..
