Follow Ups:
I'm surprised you would make that bold a statement, considering 'I Am The Walrus,' 'A Day In The Life,' the White Album, and Abbey Road. For my money, 'I Will,' 'Julia,' and 'Something' rank much higher on the artistic scale as I see it, than 'What Goes On,' 'Yellow Submarine,' or 'The Word'...and remember how Lennon was always dismissive towards 'Run For Your Life,' which he derided as filler. To answer the original question, my least favorite from the later Beatles period is 'Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da.' 'You Know My Name' has charm & Brian Jones on saxophone; I don't get the hate for a harmless throwaway like 'Wild Honey Pie;' and I don't really consider Revolution 9 to be a song in that sense. But hearing about Desmond & Molly one more time is something I could very well live without.

. . . given that I don't happen to care much for the songs/albums you list! Couple good songs on Abby Road, all I really like from White is "Revolution." They're good, mind you, but just not as consistently killer as Rubber Soul/Revolver.All a matter of taste, of course. I think Lennon/McCartney were at their height during the period mentioned, apart from the obvious clunkers. They were also at their height as a band playing together.
..because, I consider this their first set of solo performances. I look at it as induviduals beginning to stretch their legs. They came up with odd ball songs and arrangements which I consider their finest work. In fact, I consider the White Album as the Rosetta Stone of Rock and Roll. The White Album also coincided with their visit to India prior to the recording. This India trip had quite an influence on this recording.

For me (YMMV) the Beatles were better than the sum of their parts. When they were recording together as a band, and particularly when Lennon and McCartney were actually writing songs together on a regular basis, the result exceeded their individual talents. When each song began to be a production of one member with little input from the others I think the overall quality suffered despite the occasional gem.

... and let's not get into what code we're talking about!
But like a great team, they could not only fill in each others... gaps perhaps, but could set up situations where the others could produce greatness. And I think we should include George MArtin there myself. When they liked him early on because he had produced The Goons, I think they opened themselves up to someone who could not only work with them, which perhaps wasn't the easiest thing in the world, but who could both push and pull them as well as realising their demands and inspirations.
