"Please Please Me" was the Beatles' debut, the U.S. version of it was 'Introducing The Beatles,' and that was released ahead of 'Meet The Beatles.' But in 1964 singles were more important anyway.

Follow Ups:
I was thinking of American debuts, forgot about the VJ record. I still remember looking at my older cousins copy of "Meet the Beatles" and all those great singles on one LP.

More than understandable. It's a debut in many ways in the popular imagination, and rightly so, at least in this country. But Vee-Jay was a great label that maybe would've folded anyway, but would've surely been better off in the long run if not for the headaches the whole episode brought. Can you imagine having a contract to release a record, and a few months down the road being hit with cease & desist orders from high-powered lawyers from Capitol Records in the midst of the biggest sales frenzy ever? Yikes.
