No, I haven't suddenly started liking rock music. But, my opinions on the topic are just that - my own opinions, which count for nothing more. Pretty much everyone has opinions. So, I was working on an extended post to subtantiate my opinions, when it gradually expanded and took on wider scope [I may even submit the finished product to some higher source, if I can write it well enough].In any case, I've run into a road block. Here's what's happened. A typically inconsiderate 20-something was blasting his cell phone. But, the rock he was blasting was atypical. So, I went up to the thug. I should've approached him to beat the daylights out of him to teach him a lesson about correct adult public behavior, but I curious about the particular rock he was playing. So, I axed him about it. Here's some of what he was playing [I'm cringing as I type these ridiculous rock music band names]:
Grand Funk Railroad - "I'm Your Captain/I'm Getting Closer To My Home"
Jethro Tull - "With You There To Help Me"
Eric Clapton - "Let It Rain"
Spirit - "1984"
Uriah Heep - "Easy Livin'"
Those are the only ones I remember. But, he played many, many more. Here's the problem. Everyone's got playlists. Everyone's got mixes. BUT - there appear to be NO MIXES for album rock tracks for the exact period of 1970 - 1973. NONE.
1970 - 1973 album tracks don't exist.
I've tried iTunes, Google, and youtube. The only thing they bring up are the big hits from the 70's [the whole decade], or disco, or progressive rock - but not the kind of rock represented by the tracks cited above. I'm not looking for the big, major 1970s songs.
During that period of time, everyone heard the big hits, but everyone also listened to albums, and heard the kind of exact music corresponding to the song types l've listed above. BUT - I CAN'T FIND A MIX OR LIST OF IT ANYWHERE.
So, can anyone help out? Does anyone have a source? Any advice?

Some of the best music came from that era, it's too bad you're not a music lover, if so having grown up in the 70's (actually purchased my first record in 1970) I could give you a huge list, but what's the point.
Go listen to the Monkeys, they might just be what you're looking for.

I'd really appreaciate your list. Even a partial one would help.
Even with the suggestions offered here, I still can't make progress in my research. Most of what I'm finding is the well known, super popular stuff from the 1970's. Most of it's from later in the decade.
My cutoff date is 1973. The reasons are due to the stylistic and socio-political change that occurred afterwards [I'll be posting a condensed article on all of that - if I can ever get the research done].
The other condition is that I don't need to know the highly popular, well know, high-on-the-charts songs. Those are easily found on youtube, itunes. etc.
What I'm looking for are the album tracks that weren't high on the charts necessarily, nor triple platinum sellers - but were, nevertheless, well know and widely listened to by 20-somethings during that period. Such as the examples I've provided. As another example, I believe that a rock band calling themselves "The Flock" are exactly what I think I'm talking about.

In addition to The Flock, also check out Head East and Captain Beyond.
Are there any particular tunes I should seek out by them?

It's comments like these why I don't see the point in helping you.

Thanks for all of the rock band suggestions. I'm not particularly familiar with some of those.
But, what I'm actually looking for is a mix that I can stream or download [willing to pay if needed] that has these rock bands.

I am not sure exactly what you are looking for but YouTube has most everything. Here is a mix of about 1300 complete albums from that era.

I dislike the low bit rate and poor sound of Youtube but it is incredibly complete.
I had searched youtube, but I just didn't get that result. Must've done it wrong.
That's closer to what I've needed. I'm not listening for music or enjoyment, but for research, so bit rates won't matter much.
Thanks again.

You might also want to add Queen, David Bowie, Mott the Hoople, Led Zep, Little Feat, Chicago, YES, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Electric Light Orchestra, Genesis, Free, The Eagles, Pink Floyd and I am sure many others
Those tracks came from the albums. Not to worry, I blast "Let it Rain" as well.
Most curious.
all the best,

..."classic rock" - music made roughly between 1965 and 1975 when rock music creativity was at it's height.
Those songs come from albums.
The songs are available individually on iTunes.
You can make your own playlist by starting with one of the songs on a streaming service like Spotify or Pandora.
Glad you didn't get your butt kicked over something so trivial. Also saw your rude post on Music.
I'll try that.
In the meantime, I disagree with your dates for so-called 'classic rock' - and that's part of thing that I'm working on; a more correct history of [ugg] rock music.
There's an important reason why I've specified the time period of 1970 to 1973 so specifically. with out going into detail, it's because a style developed and made its fleshed-out appearence during those years. After 1973, things changed, decisively, into what most people recognize as the 1970s. There occured the rise of disco, and a theatrical element in rock that would be expressed as "glam-rock", accompanied by bi-sexual chic both in rock and roll and in society. Progressive rock, which had been developing since the mid 60's, reached it's dominant position on the scene and would subsequently reach its pinacle, before declining and falling out of favor.
And so on.
Oh, and I kick butt - not the other way around. You want to find out - let me know.

In popular music. Some names that mattered: New York Dolls, Can, Stooges, Ramones, Tom Waits, Television, Kraftwerk, Fairport Convention, David Bowie, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Leonard Cohen. I would advise against Grand Funk Railroad, but to each their own. Good luck on your project.
