I remember catching Jonny Adams at the Worlds Fair (one of the wonder wall stages.) I was standing right behind Ellis Marsalis, who was telling his then teenage son Delfeayo "Check this cat out. He has a five octave range." My favorite Johnny Adams memory was hearing him face off with Bobby McFerrin an a cappella throw down at the 1983 Jazz Fest. He was great even when he was just phoning it in, but when he really got into it, he was transcendent.
The first time I saw him was shortly after moving to N.O. and unfortunately it was at a benefit to help pay for his medical bills. I saw him one more time after that just before he passed. It would have been great to see him in his prime.

Was that at the Palm Court? What I remember most about that night was hearing Henry Butler in a "trad" setting for the first time; of course he was amazing.
Yes it was Palm Court and that was a great night for music. My friends group was part of the house band that night and that was the first time for me seeing any of the legends there that night including Big Al Carson who did not want to give up the stage IIRC.
