From what she said it seems like a truncated version of ANTHOLOGY.
Most interesting was the cleaned up LIVE A SHEA stadium concert. All thirty minutes of it.
Not much of an Opie fan so I worry it could be borderline maudlin. Won't go to the theater, will wait for the DVD.
While Beatles memorabilia becomes interesting again one should consider watching NOWHERE BOY about the secondary school years of John (mainly) and Paul. I think the most memorable portrayal in the movie is of Aunt Mimi.
They remind us at the end of the movie that he called her every week until he died. She was tough but she loved him and as much as he fought her he knew her intentions were for the best. Reminded me of my mother.
Good explanation of the Mimi/Julia story. I must admit I am getting a little verklempt just writing about it ...
It is far from perfect but it is worth seeing.
Follow Ups:
Above is a scene from Nowhere Boy, supposedly a fairly accurate representation of the day John Lennon met Paul McCartney, when his Quarrymen played the Woolton parish fete.
The rather stoic woman snubbing out her cigarette as the band begins is John's Aunt Mimi. The whistling redhead is John's mother, Julia.
Actual photo of John on stage from that day.
"A guitar's all right, John, but you'll never make a living from it." -Aunt Mimi.
It's playing at the neighborhood theater, but I probably will wait for the DVD.
Thanks for the tip on Nowhere Boy. I now have that one on my radar.
This is really interesting.
