In Reply to: RE: Fer chrissakes, the "modern lineup" ain't the Allmans. Duane and Dickey were the band. posted by Bobaloo on July 20, 2012 at 12:24:20
Did you see the original band live?
I can't say that I have seen the modern band live but I did see the original lineup several times.
As an aside, my experience has been that technical chops, per se, are close to meaningless as a measure of quality in the context of rock bands.
Follow Ups:
and not try and use the name.
who's last name is Allman and Derick who is a nephew of an original member and who has been jamming with the band since he was a young teenager and a band leader who's been with them for 20 plus years is good enough for me.
I feel sorry for you that your so caught up with politics and semantics and not enjoying the music. They are one of the best live bands I've seen in the last 10 years.
No one is a bigger fan than Duane than me but he died and it was nothing short of glorious that those guys pulled out of an unthinkable dire tragedy with Eat A Peach and Brothers and Sisters. Your turning one of the greatest triumphs in rock history into a negative. If they quit, I don't get to enjoy:
Mellissa
One Way Out
Ramblin Man
Come and Go Blues
Soutbound
Jessica
When "Hittin the Note" came out it was fresh, with Haynes and Trucks fingerprints all over it but unmistakably ABB. Warren Haynes wrote 6 of the song which are in heavy rotation in current live sets.
Betts problems are for a different thread but it was time for the band to mire in sloppiness or move on and be something great.
Your comments suggest to me that you don't get out and see a lot of live music and are a little naive as the realities to the music industry and copy write issues. For them to call themselves anything but the Allman Brother is what's absurd. Old Jazz guys or old blues guys playing the music they love to millions of fans is revered by everyone. But god forbid an old rock guy play the music they wrote on into older age... Critics like you come out of the woodwork and scream... "they aren't as good as they used to be... booo, get off the stage. I suggest you find another stage, maybe with 20 year olds. You also remind me of the old man who looks out the window and can't enjoy children playing outside. You look outside waiting for the ball to come in your yard so you can yell at them.
when they're considered the apotheosis and you say, "carry on!"
Hell, you probably love the Dead w/out Jerry. Pity the Experience isn't coasting along with Jimi's family, you'd adore it, too.
The two lead guitars plus Berry Oakley, gone.
You're in love with a cover band.
That's okay.
Many people love cover bands, they just aren't as confused as you into thinking they're the real thing. Either you're a young kid or you're so old your hearing is shot.
