And I generally don't like country music.
I don't either, although I have developed a real appreciation for old country, like Cash, Nelson, Hank Williams Sr., Dwight Yoakam. etc. over the years.
The new country is generally too vanilla, too much of a "soft rock" feel for me. And so much of it is sung with an affected, over-done Southern accent. I find that annoying.
I do tend to enjoy the few newer country artists who don't forget their roots; usually the ones who mix a Bluegrass feel into their recipe.
Taylor Swift is one I would put into that classification. I will freely admit that her looks don't do anything to dissuade me from appreciating her either.
Tom Petty said that new country music (as it is called) was just bad rock and roll. I agree.

Real country and bluegrass played by real country and bluegrass legends. Well recorded, minimal processing. Sounds like the performers are in front of you.
Readily available for less than $20.
I ordered from the library this am. There are multiple versions it seems so I went with the two disc cd.
OK. She looks kinda good in a very tall, waify super model kind of way... very pretty but doesn't have a soulful bone in her body. I know I'm being mean (as her song points out).
Country music has never been better but the good country music isn't called country music anymore... it's called Alt country or Americana. And it's not at the Grammy's or on mega watt radio stations. It's on college campuses and youtube and bootleg live files that the college kids are swapping. They're at places like the http://merlefest.org and http://www.bonnaroo.com/.
Here'a a few to check out:
The Carolina Chocolate Drops
Old Crow Medicine Show
I actually enjoyed the Grammy's this year but... the old model of the big music studio's promoting the best music is over. The best musicians and writers are doing their own thing and putting it out to the public in a very personal way via the www.
Perhaps. But since I'm fairly soulful, I'd be happy to lend her mine.
