I think you're absolutely right about this:Later I did some research on 'deception testing' and found out that subjects have a bias to differentiate between A and B, as if failing to hear a difference meant one had mid-fi ears. In fact, when there is only one component in use and the subject is tricked into believing there are really two components, A and B,
he will say he prefers either A or B about 75% of the time!
Only 25% of the time will he say he can't hear a difference,
or can't decide whether he prefers A or B.It's human nature; it's the same reason it's hard to get people to answer "I don't know" when you ask them a question. Most people would rather make something up than admit they have no idea. If you can't tell the difference between 2 things, you're not a Golden Ear. Better to admit it up front....
