My wife has come down with it in the ear next to the harp strings. She had to give up the harp, and enjoys our music less. There is no treatment, as you know, but you might want to have your blood pressure checked if you haven't for a while.

There is some treatment for tinnitus, but the standard ENT won't tell you about it because it isn't accepted mainstream treatment yet. See the following URLs about Tinnitus Retraining Therapy. I used to have bad hyperacusis with my tinnitus, and was greatly helped by a similar therapy at the Oregon Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Treatment Center. My tinnitus is hardly noticeable to me most of the time, and is not really a concern, just a nuisance when it comes to evaluating sound on my worse days.http://www.tinnitus-audiology.com
http://www.tinn.com/trt.htmlCheck those out. If tinnitus is really affecting your wife's enjoyment in life and she thinks about it often, consider those options. Hope she has good luck with that problem.
