The Von Schweikert VR-4.5 Mod 5s....I cannot say definitely one way or the other. These speakers were voiced to sound best with the rear-firing tweets set to full volume.
But then again, if I had them placed closer to the rear wall, they may sound best with those tweets attenuated somewhat, or maybe even turned off. Some rooms may not be as friendly with such speakers.
I think the best answer is it does enhance the sense of ambience, but I guess it comes down to how much room ambience you want to hear. (You may prefer hearing the ambience primarily from the recording.) And how compatible your room is with such a setup.
I will say that in my case, the rear-firing tweets have never posed a problem. But luck may be a part of it.
