I don't recall seeing mention of the chip heating up related to its operation. However as such an effect is easily detected one would think that corroboration shouldn't be difficult.Moreover if the chip could be demonstrated to absorb energy from its environment as effectively as your observation seems to suggest this aspect of operation alone would make it appealing in a extra-audio sense (to say the very least).
