You said, "...I really do not care to speculate on that issue as I am not so sure that 1) it really matters, ..."It matters a great deal how the GSIC works if the mechanism is really outside our present realm of physical understanding.
Why do you think it makes permanent changes in compact discs and not in human tissue? To know that with any degree of confidence would require a detailed understanding of how it works on compact discs to begin with.
The history of human technological development is filled with examples of "new physics" advances that turned out to be hazardous: asbestos, Thalidomide, radium watch dials, Agent Orange, poly chlorinated biphenols, etc., etc.

The GSIC case has a thin slip of glass in the cover, very much akin to a microscope cover slip. Crack it and the GSIC looses its 'power'. Asked the importer of the chip and he confirmed that the glass was necessary for the chip to retain it's 'strength'
Don't know if this provides any clues as to deciphering the GSIC, but it may help.
but your inferences are not what I was implying. I was simply referring to that if the chip does make a difference (that is people like and hear what it does), does their explanation really matter? I am not in a position to claim "how it works" nor "how it does what it does" - way beyond me.Am I curoius how it does what it does? To a point I suppose, but I have other things that drive my day.
On the ohter hand, yes most certainly it should be known if what it is doing can cause harm to the person(s) being exposed to its presence. But that would again be a speculation.

for the purposes of enjoying treated discs, the people who use the chip do not need to have a valid explanation of how it works. The point I'm trying to make is not that the chip is dangerous (I do not think it is), but that people who think it works have no reason to believe it is not dangerous. This is not speculation, just simple logic.
Using the chip involves taking a risk that its mechanism harms them and their housemates. There is plenty of history of things that do harm that takes years to result in symptoms. Failure to drop dead immediately after using the chip is no comfort. It takes a long time to die from bone cancer.
