Can anyone recommend an outdoor speaker that does well in all weather conditions, rain and snow as well.
For the most part, I guess maybe a PA speaker.
It's for my Brother who has a Paint Ball (War Games) business.
He wants them so he can play sound tracks like the opening of the movie Privte Ryan, etc,... To give some background affects while the games are going on..
Thanks for any help!
Ken

Klipsch outdoor speakers use horns. Fairly clean sound and long throw. Not the best bass but subs are made that look like rocks that could be interspersed.
JBL (pretty decent speaker company) makes some really inexpensive compact 2-way speakers. i have seen them mostly outdoors in places like bush gardens in Florida (where it rains quite a bit).
the series called control pro.
they run around 100 dollars each but you have to buy amps for them.
OR... you could get the powered version (control p2) which have the amps built into the speaker box... this version is around 200 dollars (u.s. that is). pretty cost effective.
if you don't want to get JBLs I'm sure Makie and QSC make a similar version of that idea...
keep in mind this type of system isn't going to be the best sound quality in the world, but they will last outdoors. (especially if you put them under something to protect them and don't shoot at them with your paintball guns).
How big is the area you are trying to apply sound to?
how much are you looking to spend?
how much quality (definition and power) do you want?
(by you i mean your brother)
godspeed.
Thanks for post!
"How big is the area you are trying to apply sound to?"
Not quite sure, my brother just took over this Paint Ball Co.
I have not been up there to see it yet. But I would think covering the whole area is not feasible, rather go with power to make make the effort for coverage of area.
"how much are you looking to spend?"
The price of the JBL is very reasonable and just about right
"how much quality (definition and power) do you want?"
Quality (definition) is not the main concern, but to be taken into account. Just looked at the specs for JBL control pro and at 87db, I guess a 200 watt Pro amp would do the trick.
Self powered speakers are out, because of lack of AC power in areas.
"but they will last outdoors. (especially if you put them under something to protect them and don't shoot at them with your paint ball guns)."
I guess will have to put them up high. I can see some Paint ballers having target practice. :O)
Thanks again for the great info. I will see what my local Pro audio dealer carries.
