I'm trying to help a friend who is a good acoustic guitar player get set up to record some of his music. He's not technically inclined nor does he have much money, so whatever solution I can come up for him has to be cheap and fairly easy to use.
I was thinking something like the Olympus LS-10 ($235) portable recorder with built in stereo mics to capture his guitar and vocals and then use Audacity (freeware) to mix and edit once the files are transferred to computer. I am certainly open to better suggestions regarding the recorder and software, or scrapping my idea and going a totally different route.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

There's the Zoom audio recorders in a similar price range. Maybe you can play with them in a music store and see which have the better user interface. Then check user reviews online to see if there's bugs to beware of. Amazon.com, epinions, big online music stores.
Alternatively, just get a USB microphone and plug it into a laptop running Audacity.
