Hi,
is the difference between the two really significant?
How is the sonic difference between an Apogee and the DA/AD section of a Tascam in a/b-comparison?
Edits: 04/27/09Follow Ups:
We've compared the AD/DA section of the Tascam to our Digital Audio Denmark AX24 and the EMM Labs ADC8 IV and DAC8 IV and there is a slight difference, but it's not night and day as the above poster suggests. Another unit worth looking into is the Korg MR2000s. The only disadvantage of the Korg is there is no way to by-pass the DSD converters. The Tascam will allow you to use outboard DSD converters. The Korg does have the option of using DSD128fs though.
Regards,
Regarding the adc and dac within the Tascam 1000HD....can anybody tell me what brand and type adc and dac is used within the Tascam? Also, does anbody know if the hard drive within the machine can be replaced by a larger capacity hard drive or even a solid state type?
DAC is a cirus logic part; do not recall number.
HD can be replaced if you know how to format new drive correctly.
An outboard ADC/DAC is a better way to go; as well as adding an outboard master clock such as the Big Ben or Antelope audio atomic clock.
