Sorry, folks. The boot.ini setting IS RISKY. It can crash your machine and reset settings in BIOS. Experienced by Theob and myself.

It works fine on the Atom :> )
That last set of reg changes c/w deleting logonui.exe has made as noticeable a difference as any other "XP Slimming" exercise on my systems. Thanks for the research!
BTW, anyone using a headless setup should also be able to delete the Pointer port, Keyboard port, Pointer class, Keyboard class and Parallel Arbiter (spelling?) keys.
Can't say if doing so makes any difference but it makes me feel good.

Of course. Atom is not downclocked. ;).

You're right. It runs properly right out of the box. I said only that it worked, I didn't say it did any good.
Seriously, I don't see what downclocking has to do with it. As MS notes,/CLKLVL Causes the standard x86 multiprocessor HAL (Halmps.dll) to configure itself for a level-sensitive system clock rather then an edge-triggered clock. Level-sensitive and edge-triggered are terms used to describe hardware interrupt types.and seems relevant to IRQs from legacy (edge-triggered) devices. I'd be a bit surprised to find one on a modern mobo but I could well be wrong. Can anyone explain?
And I said only that it worked due to it's stable mode because it is not downclocked. Obviously the option /CLKLVL leads to some instable mode with downclocking settings. So BIOS settings reset into default at start up as at overclocking.
