Intrigued by Kclo and Rick's registry posts I took a turn at it with to my ear very good results.
I reloaded an image back when the system was still pretty functional. In my case it was at Steppe7 with Bold Fortune level 9. I installed Kclo's
recommended tool Advanced System Care. I ran all the deep cleaning options. I believe it reported over 5k errors cleaned, and then compressed the registry. I then applied Steppe up to 14. Ran the cleaner and then uninstalled the cleaner. Carried on to apply step16 and Myhalov 1,2&3. Rebooted from another partition and did the folder deletions.
The cmp partition worked without issue.
The SQ in my machine has taken a significant jump. I cannot be fully sure it is all due to the reg optimization as I had made some minor changes to my DAC power supply and it is possible I had not made all the same folder deletions previously. So I'd be interested if anyone else sees this level of change. Basically the imaging is precise in 3d as it never has been before, and the whole thing is very real. It is more or less don't touch it perfect. Definitely taking an image of this one.

It is so nice to see another inmate having good result from Registry optimization. I was trying not to oversell the positive benefits in my previous mails as I was really looking for confirmation for what I was hearing.
To me the sound is now very analog, and there is now a delicate subtlety (sorry, don't know how to put it into words) to the whole sonic spectrum.

Congratulations!

Bold Fortune is a guy who has developed quite a following writing about how to slim down XP. His site is currently here:

It appears that for a $15 donation, he will supply his batch files.
I put everything he advocates in level 2 into a bat file. Happy to email you a copy.
