I have had a few things I was not able to do which I will mention in a later post.
An interesting anomaly occurred which I thought I would tell: when asking cMP to OPEN with cMP after I said said yes to all of the questions and hit the "X" and it asked me to restart which I said YES to the machine would restart but not into cMP, back to DESKTOP. I found after the request and it restarted I had to use the START button and request restart then the machine would restart into cMP.
Needless to say this did cause a moment or two of panic.
Thought I would mention this in case anyone else has the same problem.
Follow Ups:
Thought I would finish up the last big registry change so I ask cMP to start with XP - it did not want to turn itself off but this was the case last might.
Comes back to cMP. Tried about five more times with the same result.
Then I had the bright idea of moving the cMP files out of the PROGRAMS folder thinking this would force an XP opening.
Well, you have guessed that this did not work and now I have nothing. I tried SAFE MODE hoping for a miracle but ...
I guess what I went through last night was part of this.
What's strange is that it sounded good last night even in what was obviously not the way it is supposed to be. For a few hours I had a dedicated cMP machine!
I assume there is nowhere to go with this but to start over. It would be really good if XPLite took care of HALF of these but I guess that is not the case.
If one does start over is it still a good idea to install XPLite in the order it was given or could there be some use in implementing that right before going into MINLOGON?
Sure wish there was a way to do batch deletions!
At least I will get more yard work done today, and tomorrow.
Hello!. Don't do xplite trick before you complete part 5. It is out of experience. The sound will be very edgy.
Serge.
P.S. I boot up into windows xp, then start cmp, everything works like a charm, and I am almost over with part 11 tweaks.
Don't worry, I am not mad or disappointed at all!
Did an nLite install (if you did not see my other ramblings) and figure I got rid of most of the stuff to begin with.
I wonder if there can be a conflict with XPLite?
I tried doing it to begin with without being careful to not delete stuff that was not there - I think it confused the issue.
Before I try it again I will make sure to only delete what I left in.
Last night I deleted all files up to number six and was surprised how good it did sound (all codecs disabled or deleted and cMP optimizations done) and though it was not where it was before I was thinking for the squeamish it sounded pretty good!
Have you noticed whether you still have AWE after all of the changes?
Bye,
Happens to me all the time that's why I have Snapshot.
but as I admitted earlier I am mindlessly decisive.
I am trying an nLite install disk.
Will be interesting to see what happens.
You said: '...An interesting anomaly occurred which I thought I would tell: when asking cMP to OPEN with cMP after I said said yes to all of the questions and hit the "X" and it asked me to restart which I said YES to the machine would restart but not into cMP, back to DESKTOP...'
Just so I understand you clicked on the Cmp logo to start...it started...you clicked on cmp mode...it asked the 3 questions... you answered yes to all and then clicked on the x button. Is that right?
and it would bring me back to XP.
When I did START/RESTART, instead of trying for the fourth time doing it the old, standard way it opened in cMP mode. Thankfully!
Strange, isn't it?
I sent you a note asking for help on accessing SERVICES through the COMMAND LINE and you did not respond! I could use the help.
Bye,
Rick
Have you figured out what is happening here? I have the same deal. Following step7 regedits no matter what I do, when I exit CMP, it exits back to windows desktop.
Therefore I cannot get CMP to start in real cmp mode. I wonder if I misunderstood one of the registry deletes.
I can still back out step 7 piece by piece as I took exports before each phase.
That may help me pin point where it changed.
I'd just like to fix it and be ready for the next phase.
