As we all probably know, The digital data is fairly modified in the audio-chain, right from its source, till it finally reaches our ear. This Audio chain, as far as the cMP is concerned, routes its way in the following order.
Flac=>Sata cable=>Motherboard=>Processor=>de-compresses to Wav=>Soundcard=>Digital cable=>Dac=>Interconnects=>Amplifier=>Speaker cables=>Speakers=>ROOM=>perceived by the ear !!!
No matter which brand of Signal cables or Power cords or Speakers being used, each have their own Colour !! Every piece of electronics in this Audio-chain induces this Colour on the music, as it passes through it. A cable, which sounds perfect in one system, may quite certainly sound dull or bright or bass-heavy in another system. Another MOST important aspect of this audio-chain, often neglected, is the Room itself. It Influences nearly 50% or more of what we hear.
Cutting the long-story short, we TUNE our systems to adapt to our listening tastes. Though the digital data may be 'Bit-Perfect', it still has to pass through these Peaks & Dips. Like a piece of Electronic, a tweak may as well sound as an Improvement, or as a down-side. Its entirely based upon this Equation, which i call 1+1-2=0.
An interconnect may boost certain frequencies ( add 1), a power cord or speaker cable or the relationship of the Speaker>Room>Listener may dip certain frequencies (minus 2). So at each step, we willingly or un-willingly tailor this line-up to arrive as closely as possible to a Balance (Zero).This is not only evident in low to mid-priced set ups. Even the most expensive set-ups i have auditioned have sounded nothing more than 'Just Ok' or 'Not Bad' to me.
Likewise, all these file deletions serve as tweaks that we are doing to an already set-up project by Cics, with an intention of improving it further if possible. But while implementing these, or for that matter any tweak, what we need to have is Focus. As i already mentioned in a previous posting, " A change need not always be an Improvement". If we have those so-called "Registrations" in our mind, as to how it sounded before making those changes, then there are very less chances of making mistakes. To accomplish that, we either need to audition recordings which we have heard hundreds of times, & are so well versed with them, that we can distinguish between that Improvement or Down-side in that Change thats taken place. I understand that its not easy. But if we could kinda stick to this policy as much as we can, then we probably will lead in the Right direction.. Only by trying to follow it as much as i could, i was able to spot out at the 'sound' & 'wdmaud.drv' files.
Just thought would share my experience with all. Sorry for the long post :-)
Follow Ups:
Have been listening for more than an hour after doing my 3rd set of deletions...
OK... I admit it.
I am hoping you post today, so I can have the fun of playing with it late tonight!
I think that was half the fun of being on this wonderful ride. Every now and again, CICS would surprise us with a new release. It was like receiving a new $15k CD in the mail from an anonymous benefactor.
I thought it was not possible to improve .39 when Serge came along and took it up a level. Now I hear of new OS tweaks and I scoff that it cannot get better.. Until it does.

Ok don't hold us in suspense. What are deletions?
:-) Will post it in a while. Have to write it down. One of the cleanest Bass qualities is apparent after these deletions. Very deep, as well as controlled... Still analysing critically. Will upload once I feel satisfied with all aspects !! Shortly..
